Connect and Play

In order to connect to and play the Subterranea RPIMUD, your computer must open a telnet connection to our server for the sending and receiving of data. Telnet connections are made through console-level terminal windows. Everything you need to play is already installed on your computer to open a generic telnet connection to the game, however straight telnet connections leave a lot to be desired and you will want to enable local echo so that you can see what you are typing.

         > Click here to open a telnet connection to the Subterranea RPIMUD

Download a MUD Client Program

Depending on the operating system you are using, several options are available with regard to specialized MUD Client Programs that have been designed to make your mudding experience easier and more enjoyable. Please keep in mind that not all of the features of every client will be compatible with the Subterranea RPIMUD.

  •          > Click here to download ZMUD (PC Client)
  •          > Click here to download Rapscallion (MacOS Classic Client)
  •          > Click here to download Cantrip (MacOSX Tiger Client)
  •          > Click here to download Cantrip (MacOSX Panther Client)
  •          > Click here to see additional resources at the MUD Connector.

Configuring Telnet and/or a MUD Client Program

If you choose to connect to the game through a standard telnet connection by clicking the link above and you are not able to see what you are typing then you will need to enable local echo. To do this, press Ctrl+] to switch over to edit mode, and then type set localecho. When the prompt returns, just hit enter to return to the game.

When you choose to use a MUD Client Program to connect you must manually configure the client to connect to the game. While the windows and window names of each client vary slightly, the connection information you will need for each of them is provided below. If you can't find where to put it, consult the help files of the client program you have downloaded.
